The Parable of the Hypocrite

SUMMARY: The parable of a hypocrite is like that of a sheep which does not know which flock to follow.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that : The Messenger of Allah SAW said: "The parable of the hypocrite is that of a sheep that hesitates between two flocks, sometimes following one, and sometimes following another, not knowing which to follow".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be certain about your beliefs and actions; Choose your friends carefully; Follow one path with clarity; Be honest with yourself and others; Have faithfulness towards Allah SWT's commands .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith by Prophet Muhammad [SAW] compares the behavior of a hypocrite to that of a sheep. A sheep is often confused and does not know which flock it should follow. Similarly, hypocrites are confused and do not know what path they should take in life. They may sometimes choose one path and sometimes another without any clear direction or purpose in life. This hadith teaches us that we must be sure about our beliefs and actions so as to avoid being hypocritical or uncertain about our faith. We must also be careful when choosing our friends and mentors as they can influence us greatly in making decisions for ourselves.
