The Revelation of Islam at 'Arafat

SUMMARY: The hadith is about a Jewish man who asked 'Umar bin Al-Khattab about a verse in the Quran that was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) on a Friday at 'Arafat.

It was narrated that Tariq bin Shihab said: "A Jewish man came to 'Umar bin Al-Khattab and said: 'O Commander of the Believers! There is a Verse in your Book which you recite; if it had been revealed to us Jews we would have taken that day as a festival'. He said: 'Which Verse is that?' He said: 'This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion'. 'Umar said: 'I know the place where it was revealed and the day on which it was revealed. It was revealed to the Messenger of Allah SAW at 'Arafat, on a Friday'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about an encounter between Umar bin Al Khattab and a Jewish man. The Jewish man asked Umar about a verse in the Quran which states "This day I have perfected your religion for you". Umar knew exactly when and where this verse was revealed - it was revealed to Prophet Muhammad on the day of Arafah during his last pilgrimage to Mecca. This shows us how important this revelation was as it marked the completion of Allah's favor upon Muslims and His choosing Islam as their religion. It also highlights how knowledgeable Umar was regarding Islamic teachings and history. This hadith teaches us that we should be grateful for Allah's blessings upon us and strive to learn more about our faith so that we can understand its importance better.
