EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the punishment for theft according to Islamic teachings. It was narrated from 'Abdullah that the Prophet cut off the hand of a thief who stole something worth five Dirhams. This shows that stealing is not tolerated in Islam and there are severe punishments for it, even if it is only a small amount. The punishment serves as a deterrent to prevent people from stealing and encourages them to be honest and trustworthy instead. It also teaches us that we should not take anything without permission, even if it seems insignificant or harmless at first glance.

The hadith also highlights the importance of justice in Islam, as everyone should be treated equally regardless of their social status or wealth; no one should be given preferential treatment when it comes to punishments for crimes such as theft. Furthermore, this hadith teaches us about mercy and compassion; although there was a punishment prescribed by Islamic law, it was still relatively lenient compared to other laws at the time which could have resulted in harsher penalties such as imprisonment or death sentences.
