Punishment for Theft

SUMMARY: Theft is a serious crime and should be punished accordingly.

It was narrated from 'Aishah, from the Prophet: "The hand of the thief is to be cut off for one-quarter of a Dinar or more".
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ‏ "‏ تُقْطَعُ يَدُ السَّارِقِ فِي رُبُعِ دِينَارٍ فَصَاعِدًا

This hadith speaks about the punishment for theft.
