Punishment for Theft According to Prophet Muhammad

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that the punishment for stealing a certain amount of money is to cut off the thief's hand.

It was narrated from 'Aishah that the Prophet said: "The hand of the thief is to be cut off for one-quarter of a Dinar or more".
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ قَالَ ‏ "‏ تُقْطَعُ يَدُ السَّارِقِ فِي رُبُعِ دِينَارٍ فَصَاعِدًا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that stealing is a serious crime and should be punished accordingly. According to this hadith, if someone steals an amount of one-quarter of a Dinar or more, then their hand should be cut off as punishment. This shows us how important it is to not steal and how seriously it was taken by the Prophet Muhammad. It also teaches us that we must respect other people's property and not take what does not belong to us. We must also remember that Allah knows all our actions and will judge us accordingly on the Day of Judgment.
