Punishment for Theft

SUMMARY: Abu Bakr cut off the hand of a thief for stealing a shield worth five Dirhams.

It was narrated that Anas said: "Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, cut off (a thief's hand) for a shield that was worth five Dirhams.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ قَطَعَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ رضى الله عنه فِي مِجَنٍّ قِيمَتُهُ خَمْسَةُ دَرَاهِمَ ‏.‏ هَذَا الصَّوَابُ
