Sunan an-Nasai 4900 (Book 46, Hadith 31) #19433
Justice and Fairness of the Prophet Muhammad

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's justice and fairness, even when it comes to his own daughter.

It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "A woman of Quraish, from banu Makhzum, stole, and she was brought to the Prophet. They said: 'Who will speak to him concerning her?' They said: 'Usamah bin Zaid'. So he came to the Prophet and spoke to him. But he rebuked him, and he said; 'Among the Children of Israel, if a noble person stole, they would let him go. But if a low-class person stole, they would cut off his hand. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, if Fatimah bint Muhammad were to steal, I would cut off her hand"".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the justice and fairness of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It was narrated by 'Aishah that a woman from Quraish belonging to Banu Makhzum stole something and was brought before him. People suggested that Usamah bin Zaid should speak on her behalf but he rebuked them instead. He then made an example of his own daughter Fatimah bint Muhammad ﷺ saying that if she were to steal he would cut off her hand too as a sign of justice and fairness for all people regardless of their social class or status. This hadith teaches us that we must be just in our dealings with others no matter who they are or what their background is. We must treat everyone equally under the law without any bias or prejudice towards anyone based on their social standing or wealth.
