Pay your debts promptly and honestly

This hadith is about the importance of repaying debts. It was narrated from Nafi that a woman used to borrow jewelry during the time of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. She borrowed some jewelry, collected it and kept it without returning it to its rightful owner. The Messenger of Allah said to her several times that she should repent and give back what she has taken, but she did not do so. As a result, he ordered that her hand be cut off as punishment for not repaying her debt. This hadith teaches us that we must always repay our debts in order to avoid severe consequences like this one. We should also remember that Allah is watching us at all times and will hold us accountable for our actions on Judgment Day if we do wrong or fail to fulfill our obligations in this life.
