Sahih al-Bukhari 2016 (Book 32, Hadith 3) #1934
Searching for the Night of Qadr

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was informed of the date of the Night of Qadr but he forgot it, so he asked his companions to search for it in the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan. He then saw a sign in a dream and returned to I'tikaf with his companions. It then rained and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) prostrated in mud and water, leaving traces on his forehead.

Narrated Abu Salama: I asked Abu Sa'id, and he was a friend of mine, (about the Night of Qadr) and he said, "We practiced I'tikaf (seclusion in the mosque) in the middle third of the month of Ramadan with the Prophet . In the morning of the 20th of Ramadan, the Prophet came and addressed us and said, 'I was informed of (the date of the Night of Qadr) but I was caused to forget it; so search for it in the odd nights of the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan. (In the dream) I saw myself prostrating in mud and water (as a sign). So, whoever was in I'tikaf with me should return to it with me (for another 10-day's period)', and we returned. At that time there was no sign of clouds in the sky but suddenly a cloud came and it rained till rainwater started leaking through the roof of the mosque which was made of date-palm leaf stalks. Then the prayer was established and I saw Allah's Messenger prostrating in mud and water and I saw the traces of mud on his forehead".

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive towards knowledge & understanding Islam better; Show humility by prostrating before God no matter what situation you are in or where you are at; Be patient when looking for answers

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was informed about when the Night of Qadr would be but he forgot it. He then asked his companions to search for it during the odd nights during the last ten days of Ramadan. In a dream, he saw himself prostrating in mud and water as a sign that they had found it, so they returned to I'tikaf with him. It then started raining and Allah's Messenger ﷺ prostrated in mud and water, leaving traces on his forehead. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive to find out more about our religion by searching for knowledge even if we forget something important like when an important event will take place or what is required from us as Muslims. We should also be patient when looking for answers because sometimes things don’t happen right away; instead they come after some time has passed like how rain came after Prophet Muhammad ﷺ returned to I'tikaf with his companions even though there were no signs before that this would happen soon. Lastly, this hadith also teaches us that we should always show humility by prostrating before God no matter what situation we are in or where we are at; just like how Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did not hesitate to do so even though he was standing in mud and water at that time.
