Diyah for Accidental Killing

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that the Diyah (compensation) for accidental killing, which appears to be intentional, with a whip or stick is one hundred camels, forty of which should be she-camels with their young in their wombs.

It was narrated from Abdullah bin 'Amr that the prophet said: "Indeed the accidental killing, which seems intentional, with a whip or a stick, (the Diyah) is one hundred camels, of which forty should be (she-camels) with their young in their wombs".

QUICK LESSONS:
Paying diyah when causing unintentional harm to another person .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the Islamic law of compensation known as ‘Diyah’. It was narrated by Abdullah bin 'Amr that the Prophet Muhammad said that if someone accidentally kills another person with a whip or stick, then they must pay a compensation of one hundred camels, forty of which should be she-camels with their young in their wombs. This means that if someone unintentionally causes harm to another person and it appears to have been done intentionally then they must pay this compensation as an act of repentance and justice. This hadith also teaches us about the importance of justice and fairness in Islam; even when something is done unintentionally we are still responsible for our actions and must make amends accordingly.
