Taking the Life of a Muslim

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to take the life of a Muslim except in three cases.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah said: "It is not permissible to shed the blood of a Muslim except in one of three cases: A soul for a soul, a adulterer who has been married, and one who separates leaving his religion".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect human lives ; Follow God's laws ; Uphold justice .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that it is not permissible to take the life of a Muslim, except in three cases. The first case is when someone has taken another person's life and justice requires that they be given an equal punishment. The second case is when someone has committed adultery and was married at the time, as this act requires punishment according to Islamic law. The third case is when someone leaves their religion, which also requires punishment according to Islamic law. This hadith teaches us that we should respect human life and only punish those who have committed serious crimes against society or against God's laws.
