Forbidden Items in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade the sale of wine, dead animals, pigs and idols. He also cursed the Jews for melting down and selling meat that was forbidden to them.

It was narrated from Jabir bin 'Abdullah that he heard the Messenger of Allah say, when he was in Makkah during the Year of the Conquest: "Allah and His Messenger have forbidden the sale of wine, dead animals, pigs and idols". It was said: "O messenger of Allah, what do you thing about the fat of the dead animal, for ships are caulked with it, skins are daubed with it and people use it in their lamps". He said: "No, it is Haram". And the Messenger of Allah then said: "My Allah curse the Jews, for when Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, forbade the meat (of dead animals) to them, they melted it down and sold it, and consumed its price".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about what is forbidden in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade the sale of wine, dead animals, pigs and idols. Wine is known as Khamr in Arabic which is an intoxicant that can lead to addiction and other negative effects on a person's health and wellbeing. Dead animals are known as Hayawanat al-Mawt which includes any animal that has died naturally or through slaughtering for food consumption but not for sale or trade purposes. Pigs are known as Huttan which are considered unclean by Islamic teachings due to their diet habits and lack of hygiene practices. Idols are known as Asnam which refers to any physical object worshipped instead of Allah such as statues or figures made out of stone, wood or metal etc.. In addition to this, the Prophet Muhammad also cursed the Jews for melting down meat that was forbidden to them by Allah and then selling it off for profit without considering its religious implications. This hadith teaches us about what items we should stay away from in order to remain true believers of Islam while also reminding us not be like those who disobey Allah's commands even after knowing them well enough.
