QUICK LESSONS:
Respect towards animals

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibition of selling cats and dogs, with an exception for hunting dogs. It was narrated by Jabir bin 'Adbullah that the Messenger of Allah forbade the price of cats and dogs, except for hunting dogs. This means that it is not permissible to sell cats or regular pet-type dogs, but it is permissible to sell a dog used specifically for hunting purposes. This hadith teaches us to be mindful when buying animals as pets or companions, as we should not buy them if they are being sold in exchange for money. Additionally, this hadith also teaches us to be respectful towards animals in general; even though we may not be able to keep them as pets or companions due to religious reasons, we should still treat them with kindness and respect.
