Selling Surplus Water Forbidden

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad forbade selling surplus water and Abdullah bin Arm disapproved of it.

It was narrated from Iyas that: the Messenger of Allah forbade selling surplus water. The keeper of al-Wahat sold the surplus water of al-Wahat, and 'Abdullah bin 'Arm disapproved of that.
أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي الْمِنْهَالِ، عَنْ إِيَاسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ نَهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ فَضْلِ الْمَاءِ ‏.‏ وَبَاعَ قَيِّمُ الْوَهْطِ فَضْلَ مَاءِ الْوَهْطِ فَكَرِهَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad taught us that it is forbidden to sell surplus water. This means that we should not take advantage of people who are in need of water by charging them more than what is necessary. Abdullah bin Arm also disapproved of this, showing his agreement with the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. This hadith teaches us to be generous and kind towards those in need, and not to take advantage of their situation for our own benefit.
