Sunan an-Nasai 4635 (Book 44, Hadith 187) #19168
Ownership of Date-Palm Trees

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that if a man pollinates a date-palm tree and then sells it, the fruits of the tree belong to the one who pollinated it, unless otherwise specified by the purchaser.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Prophet said: "Any man who pollinates a date-palm tree then sells it, the fruits of the tree are for the one who pollinated it, unless the purchaser stipulated otherwise".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect others' property rights and agree on terms before enforcing them in business transactions .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about ownership rights in regards to date-palm trees. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that if a man pollinates a date palm tree and then sells it, he has ownership over its fruits unless otherwise specified by the purchaser. This means that even after selling the tree, he still has rights over its produce as long as there is no agreement between him and the buyer stating otherwise. This hadith also teaches us about fairness in business transactions; both parties must agree on any terms before they can be enforced.
