Sunan an-Nasai 4569 (Book 44, Hadith 121) #19102
Fair Exchange of Goods

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that when exchanging goods, it is important to be fair and equal in the exchange. Taking or giving more than what is due is considered Riba (usury).

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Gold for gold, weight for weight, like for like; and silver for silver, weight for weight, like for like. Whoever gives more or takes more has engaged in Riba"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Agree on an equal exchange between two parties without taking advantage of each other.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of fairness and equality when exchanging goods. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that if someone gives or takes more than what is due, then they have engaged in Riba, which means taking interest on a loan. This means that if someone lends money to another person, they should not charge them extra for it. Similarly, when trading goods with someone else, both parties should agree on an equal exchange of items without one party taking advantage of the other. This hadith encourages us to practice fairness and justice in our dealings with others so as not to take advantage of them or cause any harm.
