The Prohibition of Muzabana

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade the practice of exchanging fresh dates and grapes for dried dates and raisins by measure.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that: the messenger of Allah forbade Muzabana, and Muzabanah means selling fresh dates still on tree for dried dates by measure, and selling fresh grapes for raisins by measure.
أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، رضى الله عنهما أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ نَهَى عَنِ الْمُزَابَنَةِ وَالْمُزَابَنَةُ بَيْعُ الثَّمَرِ بِالتَّمْرِ كَيْلاً وَبَيْعُ الْكَرْمِ بِالزَّبِيبِ كَيْلاً

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibition of a practice called Muzabana. It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the messenger of Allah forbade this practice. Muzabana is when someone exchanges fresh dates or grapes still on the tree for dried dates or raisins by measure. This means that if someone has a certain amount of fresh fruit they can exchange it for an equal amount of dried fruit. This hadith teaches us to be fair in our dealings with others and not to take advantage of them in any way. We should always strive to be honest and just in all our transactions with others so that everyone benefits from it equally.
