The Unacceptable Urging of Cancellation

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to urge someone to cancel a sale they have already agreed upon with another person in order to benefit oneself.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Prophet said: "No one of you should urge someone to cancel a sale he has already agreed upon with his brother so as to sell him his own goods".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest when dealing with others; Respect agreements made between two people; Do not interfere in agreements between two people; Do not urge someone else's cancellation of an agreement for your own gain

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of being honest and fair when it comes to business transactions. It is narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Prophet said, “No one of you should urge someone to cancel a sale he has already agreed upon with his brother so as to sell him his own goods”. This means that it is not permissible for someone to try and convince another person who has already made an agreement with someone else, such as a sale, in order for them to buy something from them instead. This hadith teaches us that we must be honest and fair when dealing with others, even if it means we do not benefit ourselves financially or otherwise. We must also respect agreements made between two people and not try and interfere in their dealings by trying to persuade one party or the other into cancelling their agreement for our own gain.
