The Sacrifice of the Horned Ram

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad sacrificed a horned, intact ram with black feet, stomach and eyes.

It was narrated that Abu Sa'eed said: "The Messenger of Allah sacrificed a horned, intact ram, with black feet some black at the stomach and black around its eyes". (Sahih )
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ ضَحَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ بِكَبْشٍ أَقْرَنَ فَحِيلٍ يَمْشِي فِي سَوَادٍ وَيَأْكُلُ فِي سَوَادٍ وَيَنْظُرُ فِي سَوَادٍ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates an event in which the Prophet Muhammad sacrificed a horned, intact ram with black feet, stomach and eyes. This act of sacrifice is known as Dhabh in Arabic and it is an important part of Islamic practice. It is believed that this act brings one closer to Allah and helps one to gain His blessings. Through this hadith we learn that even though sacrificing animals may seem like a difficult task, it can be done with ease if done for the sake of Allah. We also learn that when performing such acts we should take care to ensure that all conditions are met so as to make sure our sacrifice is accepted by Allah. Furthermore, this hadith teaches us about being mindful of our actions and how they can affect others around us; by sacrificing an animal in such a way we show respect for its life while still fulfilling our religious obligations.
