Consumption of Horse and Donkey Meat

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade the consumption of donkey meat but allowed the consumption of horse meat.

It was narrated that Jabir said: "On the Day of Khaibar, the Messenger of Allah forbade the flesh of donkeys but he permitted the flesh of horses".
أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، - وَهُوَ ابْنُ دِينَارٍ - عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ نَهَى - وَذَكَرَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ عَنْ لُحُومِ الْحُمُرِ وَأَذِنَ فِي الْخَيْلِ
