Hunting Game with Trained Dogs and Mirad

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the permissibility of eating game hunted by trained dogs and shot with a Mirad.

It was narrated that 'Adiyy bin Hatim said: "I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I release my trained dogs and they catch (game) for me; can I eat It? He said: 'When you release your trained dogs and they catch (game) for you, then eat'. I said: 'Even if they kill it'. He said: 'So long as no other dogs have joined them". I said: 'I shoot with the Mirad. And they penetrate (the game)'. He said 'If they penetrate it, then eat, but if the broad said strikes it, then do not eat"".

QUICK LESSONS:

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the permissibility of eating game hunted by trained dogs and shot with a Mirad. It was narrated that 'Adiyy bin Hatim said he asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ if he could eat game caught by his trained dogs, to which the Prophet ﷺ replied yes, as long as no other dogs have joined them. He then asked if it was permissible to eat game penetrated by a broadhead arrow from his mirad, to which the Prophet ﷺ replied yes, but not if it was struck directly. This hadith teaches us that hunting animals for food is permissible in Islam so long as certain conditions are met such as using only one's own trained animals or weapons and not causing unnecessary suffering or harm to any animal.
