Sunan an-Nasai 4234 (Book 41, Hadith 13) #18767
Utilizing Resources and Abiding by Islamic Law

SUMMARY: The Prophet asked why a dead sheep was not used for its skin, and was told it was not slaughtered properly. He then reminded them that Allah has only forbidden us to eat it.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas, from Maimunah, that: the Prophet passed by a dead sheep that had been thrown aside. He said: "Who does this belong to?" They said: "Maimunah". He said: "Why did she not make use of its skin?" They said: "It is dead meat (ie, it was not slaughtered properly)". He said: "Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has only forbidden us to eat it".

QUICK LESSONS:
Utilize resources efficiently and mindfully; adhere to religious laws set forth by Allah Almighty; make use of all parts of an animal even if you cannot eat some parts due to religious restrictions; do not throw away any resource without making sure you have made full use out of it first; respect life even after death as much as possible .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights the importance of utilizing resources in an efficient manner while also abiding by the laws of Islam. The Prophet passed by a dead sheep that had been thrown aside and asked who it belonged to. When he found out it belonged to Maimunah, he asked why she did not make use of its skin. He was told that the animal had not been slaughtered properly according to Islamic law, so eating it would be prohibited. In response, the Prophet reminded them that Allah has only forbidden us from eating such meat but did not forbid using other parts of the animal for other purposes such as clothing or shelter. This teaches us to be mindful of our resources and use them in an efficient manner while also adhering to religious laws set forth by Allah Almighty.
