Mikhnaf bin Sulaim said: "While we were standing with the Messenger of Allah at 'Arafat, he said: 'O people, it is upon each family to offer a sacrifice (Udhiyah) and an 'Atirah each year". (One of the narrators) Muadh said: "Ibn 'Awn used to offer slaughter the 'Atirah, and I saw that with my own eyes during Rajab". (Daif)
The act of sacrificing animals is not only beneficial for us spiritually but it also helps strengthen our relationship with Allah by showing Him that we are willing to give up something precious in order to please Him. Furthermore, it teaches us humility and gratitude towards Allah for all that He has given us in this life. Additionally, it encourages generosity amongst Muslims by reminding them that they should be willing to share their wealth with those who are less fortunate than them. Overall, this hadith emphasizes the importance of sacrificing animals each year as a way of remembering Allah’s mercy upon us and being generous towards others who may not have enough resources or means available for themselves.
