Obeying the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught his followers to obey him as much as they can.

Ibn 'Umar said: "When we gave our pledge to the Messenger of Allah to hear and obey, he would say to us: 'In as much as you can".
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ كُنَّا حِينَ نُبَايِعُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ يَقُولُ لَنَا ‏ "‏ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of obedience to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It was narrated by Ibn 'Umar who said that when they gave their pledge to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to hear and obey him, he would tell them “In as much as you can”. This means that we should try our best to obey and follow what he has taught us. We should not be lazy or careless in following his teachings but instead strive hard and do our best in obeying him. We should also remember that it is not enough just to listen but we must also act upon what we have heard from him. This hadith teaches us about the importance of obedience and how it is essential for us if we want to be successful in this life and hereafter.
