Sunan an-Nasai 4174 (Book 39, Hadith 26) #18707
Pledging Obedience to the Prophet

SUMMARY: Jarir pledged to the Prophet to obey him in all matters, and the Prophet accepted his pledge.

Jarir said: "I came to the Prophet and said to him: 'I pledge to you to hear and obey in what I like and what I dislike'. The Prophet said: 'Can you do that, O Jarir,' or, 'Are you able for that?' He said: Say: As much as I can'. So he accepted my pledge (for that), and that I be sincere toward every Muslim".

QUICK LESSONS:
Listen & Obey your leader with sincerity & fulfill your promises

EXPLANATIONS:
Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali came to the Prophet and promised that he would listen and obey him in all matters. The Prophet asked if he was able to do this and Jarir said as much as he could. The Prophet accepted his pledge of obedience from him. This hadith teaches us that it is important for Muslims to be obedient towards their leaders and follow their instructions with sincerity. It also shows us that we should strive our best in fulfilling our promises even if we are not sure of being able to fulfill them completely.
