Loyalty Rewarded

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was distributing shares to his relatives, and when asked why he gave a share to Banu Al-Muttalib and not others, he said that they had not abandoned him during the pre-Islamic period or in Islam.

It was narrated that Jubair bin Mut'im said: "When the Messenger of Allah distributed the share for his relatives to Banu Hashim and BanuA-Muttalib, I came to him with 'Uthman bin 'Affan and we said: 'O Messenger of Allah, no one denies the virtue of Banu Hashim because of the relationship between you and them. But how come you have given (a share) to Banu Al-Muttalib and not to us? They and we share the same degree of relationship to you'.The Messenger of Allah said: "They did not abandon me during the Jahiliyyah or in Islam. Banu Hashim and Banu Al-Muttalib are the same thing, and he interlaced his fingers".

QUICK LESSONS:
Remain loyal even when times are tough .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of loyalty. The Prophet Muhammad was distributing shares to his relatives from Banu Hashim and Banu Al-Muttalib. When Jubair bin Mut'im and Uthman bin Affan asked why he gave a share to Banu Al-Muttalib but not them, the Prophet explained that it was because they had been loyal to him during both the pre-Islamic period known as Jahiliyyah and in Islam. This shows us how important loyalty is; it can be rewarded even if there are no other ties between two people. It also teaches us that we should always remain loyal even when times are tough, as this will be remembered by Allah SWT.
