Fasting While Travelling

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) gave permission to Hamza bin 'Amr Al-Aslami to choose whether or not he wanted to fast while travelling.

Narrated 'Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) Hamza bin 'Amr Al-Aslami asked the Prophet, "Should I fast while traveling?" The Prophet replied, "You may fast if you wish, and you may not fast if you wish".
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ أَنَّ حَمْزَةَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو الأَسْلَمِيَّ قَالَ لِلنَّبِيِّ أَأَصُومُ فِي السَّفَرِ وَكَانَ كَثِيرَ الصِّيَامِ‏.‏ فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ إِنْ شِئْتَ فَصُمْ، وَإِنْ شِئْتَ فَأَفْطِرْ

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith narrated by Aisha, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was asked by Hamza bin 'Amr Al-Aslami if he should fast while travelling. The Prophet ﷺ replied that it was up to him and that he could choose either way. This hadith teaches us that we have the freedom of choice in certain matters and that we can decide for ourselves what is best for us in certain situations. It also teaches us the importance of respecting other people's choices and decisions even if they differ from our own opinions. We should always remember that everyone has their own unique circumstances and experiences which shape their decisions and choices in life.
