The Fate of Runaway Slaves

SUMMARY: A slave of Jarir's ran away and was killed after being caught. The Prophet (SAW) said that if a slave runs away, their prayers will not be accepted and they will die as a disbeliever.

Jarir used to narrate from the Prophet SAW: "If a slave runs away, no Salah will be accepted from him, and if he dies he will die a disbeliever". A slave of Jarir's ran away, and he caught him and struck his neck (killing him).
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، قَالَ كَانَ جَرِيرٌ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ‏ "‏ إِذَا أَبَقَ الْعَبْدُ لَمْ تُقْبَلْ لَهُ صَلاَةٌ وَإِنْ مَاتَ مَاتَ كَافِرًا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ وَأَبَقَ غُلاَمٌ لِجَرِيرٍ فَأَخَذَهُ فَضَرَبَ عُنُقَهُ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the fate of runaway slaves. According to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, if a slave runs away from their master, their prayers will not be accepted by Allah and they will die as a disbeliever. Jarir ibn 'Abdullah al-Bajali was once in possession of such a runaway slave, whom he eventually caught and killed. This hadith serves as an example for us to understand that slavery is wrong and should not be practiced in any form or fashion today. It also teaches us that we must always strive to do what is right according to Islamic teachings even when it may seem difficult or inconvenient at times.
