Sunan an-Nasai 4036 (Book 37, Hadith 71) #18569
Punishment for Attacking a Herdsman

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) sent some Arab people to drink milk from camels, but they attacked the herdsman and drove off the camels. As punishment, their hands and feet were cut off and their eyes were gouged out.

It was narrated that Sa'eed bin Al-Musayyab said: "Some 'Arab people came to the Messenger of Allah SAW and accepted Islam, then they became sick. The Messenger of Allah SAW sent them to some milk camels to drink their milk. While they were with them, they attacked the herdsman, who was a slave of the Messenger of Allah SAW, and killed him. They drove off the camels, and claimed that the Messenger of Allah SAW had said: 'O Allah, make thirsty the one who makes the family of Muhammad thirsty tonight'. The Messenger of Allah SAW sent (men) after them, and they were caught. Then he had their hands and feet cut off, and their eyes gouged out". Some of them (the narrators) added more than others, except that in his narration of this Hadith, Mu'awiyah said: "They drove them off to the land of Shirk".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a group of Arab people who accepted Islam but then committed an act of aggression against the herdsman of the Prophet Muhammad's camels. As punishment for this crime, they had their hands and feet cut off and their eyes gouged out. This serves as an example of how serious it is to attack someone or something that belongs to another person without permission. It also shows us that justice must be served in order for society to function properly; if we do not punish those who commit wrongdoings, then chaos will ensue. Furthermore, this hadith teaches us that we should always think twice before taking any action because there are consequences for our actions - both good and bad - no matter what they may be.
