Intentional Killing of Believers and Repentance

SUMMARY: Repentance is not accepted for those who intentionally kill a believer.

It was narrated that Sa'eed bin Jubair said: "I said to Ibn 'Abbas: 'Can a person, who killed a believer intentionally, repent?' He said: 'No'. I recited the Verse from Al-Furqan to him: 'And those who invoke not any other ilah (god) along with Allah, or kill such person as Allah has forbidden, except by right,' he said: 'This Verse was revealed in Makkah and was abrogated by a Verse that was revealed in Al-Madinah: 'And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the issue of intentional killing of believers and repentance. It was narrated by Sa'eed bin Jubair that he asked Ibn 'Abbas if a person who killed a believer intentionally can repent, to which Ibn 'Abbas replied in the negative. He then recited the verse from Al-Furqan which states that whoever invokes any other god besides Allah or kills someone whom Allah has forbidden to be killed, except by right, will face punishment. Ibn 'Abbas then said that this verse was revealed in Makkah and was abrogated by another verse revealed in Al-Madinah which states that whoever kills a believer intentionally will face Hell as recompense. This hadith teaches us that intentional killing of believers is an unforgivable sin and no amount of repentance can absolve one from it.
