Vows and Oaths in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that there is no need to make a vow for an act of disobedience and the expiation for such a vow is the same as that of an oath.

It was narrated that 'Imran bin Husain said: The Messenger of Allah said: "There is no vow to commit an act of disobedience and its expiation is the expiation for an oath". Mansur bin Zadhan contradicted him in his wording.

QUICK LESSONS:
Think carefully before making any kind of promise; Strive to do what's right; Pay expiations when necessary; Keep your word; Be accountable for your actions & words.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the importance of keeping our promises and not making vows or oaths to do something wrong. The Prophet Muhammad said that if we make a vow to do something wrong, then we should pay the same expiation as if we had made an oath. This means that it is important for us to think carefully before making any kind of promise, whether it be a vow or an oath, because breaking them can have serious consequences. We should also remember that Allah will hold us accountable for our actions and words, so it is important to always strive to do what is right and stay away from doing anything wrong.
