No Vow for Disobedience

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that there is no need to make a vow for an act of disobedience, and the expiation for such a vow is the same as that of an oath.

It was narrated from 'Aishah that the Messenger of Allah said: "There is no vow to commit an act of disobedience and its expiation is the expiation for an oath".

QUICK LESSONS:
Make promises/vows carefully , Avoid committing acts of disobedience , Seek repentance & forgiveness when needed .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that it is not necessary to make a vow or promise to do something wrong or sinful. If we do make such a promise, then we must pay the same expiation as if we had made an oath. An oath is when someone makes a solemn promise in front of Allah SWT and swears by His name. This means that if someone makes a vow to do something wrong, they must still pay the same expiation as if they had made an oath. This teaches us not only to stay away from doing wrong things but also from making promises or vows about them.

The Prophet ﷺ also taught us about repentance and forgiveness from Allah SWT; He said “Allah loves those who repent” [Sahih Bukhari]. We should always strive to stay away from sinning and seek forgiveness whenever we slip up so that our hearts can be filled with love for Allah SWT and His Messenger ﷺ .
