The Choice of Oaths

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that if someone swears an oath and adds the phrase "If Allah wills" then they have the choice to either go ahead with it or not.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever swears an oath and says, 'If Allah wills,' then he has the choice: If he wishes, he may go ahead, and if he wishes he may not".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful of one's words and promises ; Acknowledge God's control over all things ; Have faith in Him ; Make wise decisions based on His guidance .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that when we make a promise or swear an oath, we should add the phrase “If Allah wills”. This is because it is only through His will that our promises can be fulfilled. By adding this phrase, we are acknowledging that whatever happens in our lives is ultimately up to Him and He has control over all things. We also have the choice to either go ahead with what we promised or not, depending on whether it is within His will for us or not. Therefore, this hadith encourages us to be mindful of our words and promises as well as being conscious of God's will in all matters.
