The Virtue of Itikaf

SUMMARY: Umar made a vow to spend a night in 'Itikaf in Al-Masjid Al-Haram and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) ordered him to perform it.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: "Umar had made a vow to spend a night in 'Itikaf in Al-Masjid Al-Haram. He asked the Messenger of Allah about that, and he ordered him to perform the 'Itikaf".

QUICK LESSONS:
Fulfill your vows, take advantage of opportunities for spiritual retreats such as Itikaf .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the virtue of performing Itikaf, which is a spiritual retreat where one spends time in seclusion and prayer at a mosque. Umar had made a vow to spend one night in this practice at the Masjid al Haram, which is the holiest mosque for Muslims located in Makkah. He asked Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) about it and was instructed to fulfill his vow by performing this act of worship. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to fulfill our vows as they are an important part of our faith, and that we should also take advantage of opportunities for spiritual retreats such as Itikaf as they can help us draw closer to Allah SWT.
