Making Expiation for Oaths

SUMMARY: If you make an oath and then find something better than it, you should offer expiation for your oath and do the better thing.

It was narrated from 'Abdur-Rahman bin Samurah that the Prophet said: "If you swear an oath, then you see something better than it, then offer expiation for your oath, and do that which is better".

QUICK LESSONS:
Make wise decisions; Seek forgiveness from Allah when mistakes are made; Offer expiations when necessary; Do what is best .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that if we make an oath or promise to do something, but then later find a better option, we should offer expiation for our original oath and choose the better option. This is because Allah has given us the ability to think through our decisions and choose what is best for us. We must use this ability to make wise choices in life. The Prophet Muhammad also taught us that if we break an oath or promise, we must seek forgiveness from Allah by offering expiation. This means that even if we have made a mistake in our decision making process, there is still hope of redemption through repentance and seeking forgiveness from Allah.

By following these teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, we can ensure that our decisions are guided by wisdom rather than impulsiveness or recklessness. We can also be sure that even when mistakes are made, there is still a way back to righteousness through repentance and seeking forgiveness from Allah.
