Swearing by Allah Alone

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us not to swear by anyone or anything other than Allah, and to only swear if we are sincere.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Do not swear by your fathers, nor by your mothers nor by the idols. Swear only by Allah, and do not swear unless you are sincere'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Take an oath sincerely directed towards Allah alone.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that when we take an oath, it should be done with sincerity and directed only towards Allah. We should not swear by our parents, idols or any other being as this is a form of shirk which is strictly forbidden in Islam. This hadith serves as a reminder for us to be mindful of our words and actions when taking an oath and to ensure that it is done with sincerity towards the Almighty. It also teaches us the importance of respecting our parents and not using their names in vain.
