Swearing by the Controller of Hearts

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad used to swear by the Controller of the hearts.

It was narrated from Salim that his father said: "The oath by which the Messenger of Allah used to swear was: 'No, by the Controller of the hearts'."
أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّلْتِ أَبُو يَعْلَى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ كَانَتْ يَمِينُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ الَّتِي يَحْلِفُ بِهَا ‏ "‏ لاَ وَمُصَرِّفِ الْقُلُوبِ

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated from Salim and his father speaks about an oath that was sworn by Prophet Muhammad. This oath was “No, by the controller of hearts”. This phrase is a reminder to us that Allah is in control of our hearts and He knows what we are thinking and feeling at all times. It also serves as a reminder for us to be mindful of our thoughts and actions as Allah is always watching over us. We should strive to do good deeds in order to please Him, as He will reward us for it in this life and hereafter. Furthermore, this hadith teaches us that we should not take any false oaths or make any promises that we cannot keep because Allah knows what is in our hearts and will hold us accountable for it on Judgment Day.
