Sunan an-Nasai 3745 (Book 34, Hadith 27) #18360
The Gift of 'Umra

SUMMARY: A gift given on the basis of 'Umra cannot be taken back by the one who gave it, as it belongs to both the recipient and their descendants.

Malik narrated from Ibn Shihab, from Abu Salamah, from Jabir that the Messenger of Allah said: "Any man who is given a gift on the basis of 'Umra, it belongs to him and to his descendants. It belongs to the one to whom he gave it, and it cannot be taken back by the one who gave it, because he has given a gift, and it comes to the heirs of the one to whom it was given".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give gifts generously without expecting anything in return

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about a gift given on the basis of ‘Umra. It explains that such a gift cannot be taken back by the one who gave it as it belongs to both the recipient and their descendants. This means that if someone gives a gift for ‘umra, they are not allowed to take it back even if they change their mind or regret giving away something valuable. The hadith also states that this gift will pass down to future generations and will remain with them until all heirs have been accounted for. This teaches us an important lesson about generosity and kindness; once we give something away we should not expect anything in return or try to take it back later on. We should also remember that our good deeds can benefit others even after we are gone from this world.
