Permissibility of Umra

SUMMARY: Umra is permissible according to the Prophet.

Shu'bah said: "I heard Qatadah narrating from 'Ata', from Jabir that the Prophet said: 'Umra is permissible'."
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ قَالَ ‏ "‏ الْعُمْرَى جَائِزَةٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the permissibility of performing an Umra pilgrimage. An Umra is a pilgrimage to Mecca that can be done at any time during the year and does not have to coincide with Hajj. The hadith was narrated by Shu'bah who heard it from Qatadah who heard it from 'Ata who heard it from Jabir that the Prophet said that performing an Umra is permissible. This hadith teaches us that we should follow in the footsteps of our beloved Prophet and perform acts of worship such as an Umra when we are able to do so. It also teaches us about respecting our elders and those in authority as well as passing on knowledge through generations so that everyone can benefit from it.
