The Gift of Giving

SUMMARY: Giving gifts should be done with the intention of giving it away permanently, and not on the basis of Ruqba.

It was narrated that Zaid bin Thabit said: The Messenger of Allah said: "Whoever gives a life-long gift, it belongs to the one to whom he gave it, both during his life and after his death. And do not give things on the basis of Ruqba, for whoever is given something on the basis of Ruqba, it becomes part of his estate".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give gifts with intention for them to stay permanently

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of giving gifts to others. It teaches us that when we give a gift, it should be given with the intention that it will stay with the recipient for life. We should not give things on a temporary basis or on the basis of Ruqba as this would make them part of their estate. This hadith also encourages us to think carefully before we give something away and to ensure that our intentions are clear when doing so. It reminds us that our actions have consequences and can affect those around us in both positive and negative ways.
