The Unacceptability of Ruqba

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to accept something on the basis of Ruqba, and whatever is given on this basis becomes part of one's estate.

Hanzalah narrated that he heard Tawus say: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Ruqba is not permissible. Whoever is given something on the basis of Ruqba, it is part of his estate'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Be careful when accepting gifts from others ; Make sure not being taken advantage ; Respect possessions received as a gift ; Honor agreements made .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the concept of ruqbah, which refers to a situation in which someone gives something to another person with the expectation that they will return it or give them something else in exchange. According to this hadith, it is not permissible for someone to accept something on the basis of ruqbah. Furthermore, whatever is given on this basis becomes part of their estate. This means that if someone gives you something expecting you to return it or give them something else in exchange, then what they gave you belongs to you and cannot be taken away from you unless there are other conditions attached. This hadith teaches us that we should be careful when accepting gifts from others and make sure that we are not being taken advantage of by those who expect us to return what was given or provide them with some other form of compensation. Additionally, it reminds us that whatever we receive as a gift should be treated as our own property and respected accordingly.
