The Gift of Giving

SUMMARY: Taking back a gift is not a good thing to do.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'The one who takes back his gift is like the dog which vomits then goes back to its vomit'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Give generously without expecting anything in return

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Ibn 'Abbas, teaches us that taking back a gift is not something that should be done. It compares the act of taking back a gift to the act of vomiting and then going back to it. This comparison shows us how disgusting and wrong it is to take back something you have already given away as a gift. It also teaches us the importance of giving gifts with an open heart and without expecting anything in return. We should give gifts out of kindness and generosity, not because we expect something in return or because we want something from someone else.
