The Disgusting Nature of Taking Back Gifts

SUMMARY: Taking back a gift is not allowed, except for a father taking back from his son. Doing so is considered to be disgusting and unpleasant.

It was narrated from 'Amr bin Shu'aib, from his father, that his grandfather said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'No one should take back his gift except a father (taking back a gift) from his son. The one who takes back his gift is like one who goes back to his vomit'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Give freely without any strings attached

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us the importance of giving gifts and how it should not be taken back unless it is given by a father to his son. It also conveys the idea that taking back a gift is considered to be disgusting and unpleasant, similar to someone going back to their vomit. Giving gifts should come from the heart with no expectation of getting something in return or having it taken away later on. We should give freely without any strings attached as this will bring joy and happiness into our lives as well as those around us.
