Bequeathing One-Third of Wealth

SUMMARY: The Prophet advised a man to bequeath one-third of his wealth when he was sick and had no children apart from one daughter.

It was narrated from Muhammad bin Sa'd, from his father Sa'd bin Malik, that the Prophet came to him when he was sick and he said: "I do not have any children apart from one daughter. Shall I bequeath all my wealth?" The Prophet said: "No". He said: "Shall I bequeath half of it?" The Prophet said: "No". He said: "Shall I bequeath one-third of it?" He said: "One-third, and one-third is much or large".

QUICK LESSONS:
Divide your assets equitably among your heirs upon death; Think ahead for your family's future needs; Provide provision for your family members after you are gone.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of inheritance and bequeathing wealth. When a man was sick and had no children apart from one daughter, the Prophet advised him to bequeath one-third of his wealth. This shows that it is important for people to divide their wealth among their heirs in an equitable manner. It also teaches us that we should not leave our family members without any provision after our death. Furthermore, it encourages us to think about how we can provide for our families even after we are gone by making sure that they have enough money or resources to sustain themselves in the future.
