The Prophet's Advice on Bequeathing Money

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised Sa'd not to bequeath all of his money.

One from the family of Sa'd narrated: "Sa'd fell sick and the Messenger of Allah entered upon him and he said: 'O Messenger of Allah, shall I bequeath all my money?' He said: 'No'." And he quoted the same Hadith.

QUICK LESSONS:
Distribute your wealth among your heirs in a fair and just manner; Provide for your family before giving away any excess wealth; Give priority to other matters over wealth; Donate generously but responsibly; Take responsibility towards your family members' needs first before giving anything else away .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the advice given by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to one of his companions, Sa'd, when he fell ill. The Prophet ﷺ asked him if he wanted to bequeath all his money and advised him against it. This hadith teaches us that we should not give away all our wealth in a single bequest as it may leave our families with nothing after we pass away. We should instead distribute our wealth among our heirs in a fair and just manner so that they can benefit from it after we are gone. It also teaches us that even though wealth is important, it should not be given priority over other matters such as providing for one’s family or taking care of their needs first before giving away any excess wealth in charity or as a bequest.
