Sahih al-Bukhari 1900 (Book 30, Hadith 10) #1823
Determining the Start and End of Fasting During Ramadan

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the start and end of fasting during Ramadan, and how to determine the length of the month if it is cloudy.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: I heard Allah's Messenger saying, "When you see the crescent (of the month of Ramadan), start fasting, and when you see the crescent (of the month of Shawwal), stop fasting; and if the sky is overcast (and you can't see it) then regard the month of Ramadan as of 30 days".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains how Muslims should determine when to start and stop fasting during Ramadan. It states that when you see the crescent moon at the beginning of Ramadan, you should begin fasting, and when you see it again at the end of Shawwal, you should stop fasting. If it is cloudy outside so that you cannot see it, then assume that there are 30 days in that month. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of our religious obligations even if we cannot physically observe them due to external factors such as weather conditions. It also encourages us to be patient in difficult times as Allah will always provide a way for us to fulfill our duties towards Him.
