Sunan an-Nasai 3453 (Book 27, Hadith 65) #18065
The Virtue of Charity and Favors

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that the one who does a favor should be given the Wala' and that charity should be given to those in need.

It was narrated from 'Aishah that she bought Barirah from some of the Ansar who stipulated that her Wala' should go to them. The Messenger of Allah said: "Al-Wala' is to the one who did the favor (of setting the slave free)". The Messenger of Allah gave her the choice, as her husband was a slave. And she gave some meat to 'Aishah as a gift, and the Messenger of Allah said: "Why don't you give me some of this meat?" 'Aishah said: "It was given in charity to Barirah". He said: "It is a charity for her, and a gift for us".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the virtue of charity and favors. It was narrated from 'Aishah, a wife of Prophet Muhammad, that she bought Barirah from some of the Ansar who stipulated that her Wala' should go to them. The Messenger of Allah said that Al-Wala', or loyalty, is to the one who did the favor. He gave Barirah a choice as her husband was a slave. When 'Aishah gave some meat to Barirha as a gift, Prophet Muhammad asked why she didn't give him some too. She replied it was given in charity to Barirha and he said it is both for her as charity and for them as a gift. This hadith teaches us about giving charity to those in need, being generous with our gifts, showing loyalty towards those who do us favors, and being mindful when we are giving out gifts so everyone can benefit from it equally.
