The Importance of Following Laws Regarding Divorce

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of following the laws of Allah regarding divorce and not divorcing a woman while she is menstruating.

Salim bin 'Abdullah bin 'Umar narrated that 'Abdullah bin 'Umar said: "I divorced my wife during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah while she was menstruating'.Umar mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah, and the Messenger of Allah got angry about that and said: 'Let him take her back, then keep her until she has menstruated again and become pure again. Then if he wants to divorce her when she is pure and before he touches her (has intercourse with her), then that is divorce at the prescribed time as Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has revealed'." 'Abdullah bin 'Umar said: "So I took her back, but I still counted the divorce that I had issued to her".

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow laws set by God /Allah's commands /Divine guidance . Wait for your wives to become pure after finishing menstruation before divorcing them . Protect rights according to Islamic law .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses an incident between Abdullah ibn Umar and his wife during the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad. Abdullah ibn Umar divorced his wife while she was still in her menstrual cycle which angered Prophet Muhammad. He instructed Abdullah ibn Umar to take his wife back until she became pure again after finishing her menstrual cycle. If he wanted to divorce her after that but before having intercourse with her then it would be considered a valid divorce according to what Allah has revealed in His book. The main idea behind this hadith is that one should follow the laws set by Allah regarding marriage and divorce as they are for our own benefit even if we don't understand them fully at first glance. It also teaches us patience as we must wait for our wives to become pure again before divorcing them so that their rights are protected according to Islamic law.
