Sunan an-Nasai 3383 (Book 26, Hadith 188) #17995
Permissibility of Entertainment at Weddings

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) allowing entertainment at weddings.

It was narrated that 'Amir bin Sa'd said: "I entered upon Qarazah bin Ka'b and Abu Mas'ud Al-Ansari during a wedding and there were some young girls singing. I said: 'You are two of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah who were present at Badr, and this is being done in your presence!' They said: 'Sit down if you want and listen with us, or if you want you can go away. We were granted a concession allowing entertainment at weddings'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrates an incident in which 'Amir bin Sa'd entered a wedding and saw some young girls singing. He was surprised to see this happening in front of two companions of the Prophet Muhammad, Qarazah bin Ka'b and Abu Mas'ud Al-Ansari, who were present at Badr. However, they told him that they have been granted a concession allowing entertainment at weddings. This hadith teaches us that it is permissible to have some form of entertainment during weddings as long as it does not involve any immoral activities or practices that are forbidden by Islam. It also teaches us to respect our elders and those who are more knowledgeable than us even if we do not agree with their decisions or opinions.
