The Sanctuary of Medina

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) declared Medina a sanctuary and reminded the tribe of Bani Haritha that they were still within its boundaries.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "I have made Medina a sanctuary between its two (Harrat) mountains". The Prophet went to the tribe of Bani Haritha and said (to them), "I see that you have gone out of the sanctuary," but looking around, he added, "No, you are inside the sanctuary".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of respecting the sanctity of places. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ declared that Medina was a sanctuary, or Haram, between its two mountains. He then went to the tribe of Bani Haritha and reminded them that they were still inside this sacred boundary. This hadith teaches us to respect holy places and not to cross their boundaries without permission or good reason. It also reminds us that we should always be mindful of our actions in such places, as we are being watched by Allah SWT at all times.
